Baby sling Tips
Shoulder Flip

To pull baby's body in closer with the sling on, take the top layer of fabric sitting on your shoulder and flip it out over your shoulder cap. This technique is great when your baby is restless or fussy. |
Breastfeeding
You really have to try this! In my opinion, there is nothing worse than waking a sleeping baby. With a baby sling, you can be discreet and breastfeed your baby easily. If they fall asleep (young babies love falling asleep at the breast), you don't have to risk waking them up transferring them to the cot. They can nap in comfort and feel secure snuggled in the sling listening to your heartbeat and breathing just as if they were back in your tummy. For small babies, put them in the cradle carry and adjust the positioning by rotating the sling with one hand while supporting the baby with the other. For older babies or when you are experienced with breastfeeding, the tummy to tummy carry can be used to feed baby vertically.
Baby's Comfort
One of the main concerns from onlookers is that baby's legs seem to be squashed in the kangaroo or the cradle hold. Your baby has curled up in the warmth of your tummy throughout the pregnancy. When they are born, they are all of a sudden exposed to thin cold air and long for the warmth and comfort of human touch. This is also why some babies are more settled when they are wrapped up nice and tight. Babies are also very vocal and are unlikely to waste a minute letting you know that they're uncomfortable. Therefore, this really should not be anything to worry about unless your sling is too small for you and there is simply no way to get baby in. As soon as baby is in the sling securely, start walking and let them enjoy the ride.
Your Comfort
For maximum comfort, ensure that you have the appropriate size sling and check that the fabric is spread out evenly and not bunched up over your shoulder and back. Your sling should be snug and not too big. If the lowest point of the sling (with the baby in) is below your hip bone, then it is too big for you.
